Energizing Careers Program
Through an application process initiated by the Board, the Ohio Department of Development has been awarded a $6 million State Energy Sector Partnership and Training Grant from the US Department of Labor (USDOL) Employment and Training Administration. USDOL’s Notice of Availability of Funds and Solicitation for Grant Applications, which includes a program description, can be viewed at http://www.doleta.gov/grants/pdf/SGA-DFA-PY-08-20.pdf.
The Energizing Careers Program supports original equipment manufacturers in the advanced energy manufacturing sectors of wind, solar and biomass, as well as those industries’ equivalent of Tier I suppliers and the companies that take the final wind, solar and biomass product to market. This includes manufacturers that produce specialized materials utilized in the wind, solar and biomass supply chain. The Program supports customized training for improving workers’ skills in Ohio’s expanding advanced energy manufacturing sector, helping Ohio businesses remain competitive. The Program will provide technical and financial assistance directly to employers to train their workers.
Who is here to help?
The Program is administered by the Ohio Department of Development through its Regional Workforce Directors, who work in the Governor's 12 Economic Development Regional Office. Workforce Directors assess the unique training needs of companies, and guide employers through all phases of the application and approval process, at no cost to the business.
How do I participate?
A company can contact one of the state's Regional Workforce Directors to help get them started. Employers have the ability to choose the training provider, and the company can either provide its own training, or engage an outside training vendor. The Energizing Careers Program will reimburse grantees the cost of approved training for full-time employees receiving at least $10.88 per hour, excluding benefits.
